I'm just wondering, would the new editor be powerful enough to recreate a futuristic SC WoW with multiple worlds and over 80 levels, with multiple stats and items, ect.? Plus raids, dungeons, epic zerg bosses, (Imagine one of the raid bosses being the overmind with hordes of zerg).

All that except having over 16 players at one time (although I have an idea to overcome that :sly: ) is possible.

Yeah, you probably could. I don't know what the "hero" level cap is (if any), but I hope it'll allow that. I don't know if you'd be able to do a ton of raids and continents (mostly due to map size), but at least you'll be able to create a very extensive RPG.

I don't know about you, but that sounds kind of boring to me. Personally, I'm going to make something more original. What it is, I don't know yet, and I wouldn't post it on a public forum if I did - but it's gonna be more original than a WoW takeoff.

We still won't know whether or not heroes will have spells in SC2, but most likely you will be able to define some for units.

Also, I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not there are dimension restrictions and what the player restriction is per map?

Don't know what you mean by dimension restriction, but the map size is more than 256x256 and units are scaleable.

As for max players, you can have up to 16 human players. The 16 other slots can be either observers or computer players.

And there will definitely be customizable spells and abilities.

Logically we can assume that SCII will have spells simply because they also (if i remember correctly) are putting in leveling (but not for melee, only UMS) so that it will have the capability to do more, rather than downgrading and not even being able to make Dota. Logically.

That map editor may well be the greatest map editor in human history, and may well retain that title for years to come.



...But does it support loading points, and the loading and unloading of individual assets?

I remember reading somewhere that the capabilities for hero customization on SC2 will be beyond what you could do on WC3. More than 3 attribute types allowed (though max of 3 displayed in the attributes area) and large inventory for items were two I had heard of. Leveling will be supported too, obviously. SC2 also has more spaces for unit commands (do any built-in units even use all of them ever?), so it will be possible to show buttons for even more spells at a time.

As for spells, it sounds like there will be lots of things you can do. For example, one I've heard of is that you can have a damage shield that when the unit is hit it fires off whatever type of weapon you want to make come off of it. Another I've heard of is that projectiles themselves can fire a weapon of their own at things, and those could then do the same in return... All of this just by setting unit and weapon properties. Then beyond the unit and weapon properties, there's still the scripting and there was a lot you could do with that on WC3.

@Shadow: The thing about weapons firing weapons would make sense. Units can be fired as weapons by other units, so you'd just make a unit that fires a unit that fires a unit.

I don't think you guys quite get what the editor will be. It's a game engine with an easy mode for noobs. There'll be a few limitations but not many, the big one being it isn't opensource.

According to Heinermann, that's incorrect. Probably that's the max for melee.

Loveless, that's the idea. They even gave us a distribution system, and a way to sell it via premium maps.

Devlin, max units is around 2900 IIRC, max players is 16 human and up to 32 total. I don't know the other limits yet.

I was only asking about the map dimensions, basically.

So I'd say the big one (limitation) is possibly the size of the map.

Units can be scaled, and map size max is at least 512x512 according to heinermann, so it shouldn't be a major limitation for any but the largest of RPGs.

well see even with the 256 area map limit you can use underground so essentially you have a bigger game play area anyhow.

I doubt size will be a huge problem except if someone does try to creat basically a True game within Starcraft. Could be wrong but I just can't see it being that big a problem.
