So yea, the title says it all, I am a fan of D&D maps and I am pissed to see those maps with only one ability per hero and only health to upgrade and no point to upgrade abilities...
I think I can rather easily make a good D&D map with all the good DM features and good RPG features, all I want to know is if map makers want to play this kind of map, because it is not always fun to roleplay with you're average SC player...
Oh, and I want the community's opinion, is this a good idea, or it looks useless, other D&Ds being good enough, or what ! ?
Edit: I actually voted for Jungle

Ya, not many people in SC are any good at role-playing. But from my view, I'd probably play it. I liked the old D&D maps, and would love to see a revamp.

If you put a lot of features and easily combine the RP elements for the dungeon master + RPG for the players, this would be fucking epic.
Imagine the DM being able to set up ANYTHING for the players to control
+being able to reward them
+them being able to develop characters
put lots of items in it and stuff
I'd play it.
I'll actually help you design and make this.

i've seen maps like this. one i can remember had 1-2 players as DM. The other players started at a spot where they chose their hero. There were some preplaced bad guys for the adventurers to kill while the DMs set up the town and next quest and whatnot. He had the ability to give xp and money to players. i guess you could make it more complex though.

Norm, the problem with this sort of thing is that you have to set some kind of limit on the DM's power.
Making the DM too powerful sets up temptation for those who play DM. Making him/her too weak makes the role boring. Some balance has to be found, or else abuse is possible or the game is too easy for the characters.
It's kind of bothersome, trying to decide where to stop. How much control do you give the DM over the realm? Then again, how much power CAN you give the DM? There are natural limits, such as location placement, and other stuff. It's never easy.

There are ways to give DM insanely large amounts of power or control...
The point is that people would like to be DM cuz u can do anything
People would like to be players cuz u actually play.
If you don't create desire for both positions, no one successfully plays map.

D&D: Legend of the Dragon. It was my favoriteee. Hours spent on that map.

http://www.staredit.net/?file=1651Actually my idea is to make similar DM comtrols as in Legend of the Dragon, except with extended heroes, like in an RPG. I might just copy every feature there is in Legend of the Dragon.

What ''Rp elements'' are you talking about here, Norm?

Screw D&D then. D&D Is supposed to be purely roleplay and chance with dice, not set attacks.
Need to make RPG Maker or some shit. Allow the designer to place town buildings, spawners, pathing, bosses, generic messages, signs, etc. Then ALLOW THE DESIGNER TO PLAY WITH THE HEROES. This is important. Also allow basic rpg features, enhanced hp, mana, spells, damage, armor and call it a day.
Then think of a sequel

Hum... actually I am willing to keep it rather basic... and I'd like to know what features would you guys see in the map, since it will mostly be made for mappers because of its extended features and complexity.
Edit: Since I am making a map for us, I want to ask people what kind of terrain you'd like to see (Mountains / rivers / plains / canyons, etc.), what kind of classes and spells, what kind of enemies and NPC and what setting (past / future / realistic / fantastic...)
When I get a general idea of what you guys would like, i'l start the map for real and post it in Map Production.
