We live in a society.

  • Severity decay has been implemented. For people having more than zero severity but less than ten, one point will decay every 20 days if the person is active. (This occurs simultaneously when activity points are added.)

  • Members with more than 10 severity do not decay severity - they will receive staff review and will receive a banning, suspension, or very stern talking-to and reduction to 9. I knocked a point off everyone at 10 or higher because I'm a nice guy. (and I took so long to implement this) Those who have already received a recent massive suspension (general suspension longer than a week) have been reduced to 9.

  • When severity is given for a suspension, removed signature, etc... it actually adds now.

  • An Introductions forum has been added for newcomers. (It's called Introductions to prevent accidental confusion of "Welcome" with "Welcome Back".) We need icons to be designed for it for all three sets. If you only can/want to do one, that's fine too.

  • Minor changes to some forum descriptions. The only one of significance to most people would be the specification of criteria for Null topics.

We live in a society.

IP coded most of the severity system. I did some bugfixes and everything in this update.

Will we actually be alerted when someone has a 10+ severity or will we have to rely on one of us running into him?

How do I see what my severity is? Because word on the street is that mine is pretty high, so this might affect me.

EDIT: Thanks Zany.

But, whoa! I am soooo Severe ><. Basically, if any mod gets offended by anything I say in the next month, I could get banned from SEN. I'm having second thought about these updates... Just kidding, the update are amazing!

EDIT2: Is there any way to get less severe besides waiting for 20 days, or bribing admin?

Click your name, then the admin tab. Severity is down the bottom.

Could just check the link in staff forum of high-severity members every now and then.

very nice. I see now i need to stay out of the Serious Discussion Forum as apparently I don't understand everything I need to do to have a quality post and thus have earned a fair bit of severity from it. The new system should get rid of most of my points Thnx.

Btw. Maybe you should include into the point removing system a clause if they haven't recieved any points during those 20days as well. This would make people be on better behavior to actually get points removed instead of just violating every 20days.

No. I have no idea where you would draw this implication from.

The list of high severity is still available to staff.
In general, a member's current severity should never actually factor into determining severity of a moderation. What I mean by that is things such as "oh he has no points a few won't hurt" and "oh, one more point and we can get rid of this guy" should never be the rationalization for any decisions. I like to assume all my moderators would have assumed that without me mentioning it, but better safe than sorry. :)

I didn't make it or break it. Ask IP. ;o

You "could". But probably wouldn't. Unless you did something really stupid.

Nope. But it's better than the no way that we had before.

I don't understand what you're trying to suggest.

This, this, this. Does anyone remember what Devilesk's warn log looked like? He had built up warn level to the point where if he were to get another warn level he'd be banned, so he had this MASSIVE list of minor infractions that no moderator had the balls to give the last warn level for :P

basically If they have a violation during 20days they don't recieve minus 1 point. If i'm correctly interpratating the current system they lose a point no matter what happens as long as 20 days go by and they are active on here. I'm trying to say you should only decrease if they have no infraction in those 20 days as well.

Trust me, the current staff of mods definitely isn't afraid of suggesting suspensions and bans. We're quite serious when we say we want to set a level of maturity in the appropriate places here at SEN.
