The sword and the faith

Pretty standard and 90% of that is bloatware because you bought failbrand Dell.

Excalibur's post is an ad ad hominem fallacy. He is attacking dell and not pointing out what is wrong with the laptop parts as not all laptop parts are made from dell.

To Brontobyte : it would be cooler if you had gotten a better processor. :|

Relatively ancient and inactive

It's slow. It's a very standard laptop. Also, Ex, stop being baad. There's nothing wrong with Dell, they're more cost efficient than most competitors.

How much did it cost?

None.

All pointless bloat/bullshit that you get for ordering Dell.

Centreri, I challenge that Newegg has laptops that are a better deal from better manufacturers. I simply need to know how much he paid for this one.

Edit: Oh I threw in the HDD because 5400RPM is so last-year's tech. 7200RPM or GTFO.

7200 RPM is 4-5 year old tech.

When I bought mine from Dell it was cheaper than everything on Newegg of comparable spec.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

I love Alienware Dell.

That CPU is pretty slow. You should upgrade the HD (both for space and speed). Unless I missed it, that doesn't come with a better graphics card than the stock integrated one, right?

How much did the whole thing cost you?

wth is starcraft

Needs less Dell.

*tab key falls off while writing this* Fuck you, Dell.

I paid $690.14 for the whole thing. It's mostly basic. I'm not going to use it for anything geeky.

Oh, it was like $890 something, but it was an automatic 200 off, and free shipping. :)

The sword and the faith

Disregarding the 200$ sale: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157020

Taking it into account: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115571

Both have dedicated GFX, more RAM, and equal or greater CPU frequency. Unfortunately it seems a lot of laptops are getting stiffed with 5400RPM drives, which just makes me sad.

Here is your (probably slightly less green) Newegg.com equivalent

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220547

7200 rpm hard drives are not for laptops. They suck power which makes 5400 rpm hard drives better. For a laptop, solid state hard drives are better than 7200 rpm hard drives.

Relatively ancient and inactive

A SSD is better for just about anything than a 7200rpm HD. It's faster and I would assume that it wastes less energy.

Ex, a fair number of companies still use 5400rpm as a laptop standard. When looking through (customization of laptops from major companies, like HP, Toshiba, etc), some didn't even have 7200 as an option.

MJ, Your newegg alternative had .66x the battery that the Dell had (six-cell vs 9-cell), and the Dell came with lojack, which seems to jack up the price of the laptop by at least $50. The Asus has 70GB less harddrive space, and I would assume that it has a weaker GPU, though I'm not certain of that. Mostly intuition stemming from Vaio and Sager using those X4500HD's. The Asus also lacks a build-in camera.

All those disadvantages, and the only upside I see is that you get 4GB instead of 3GB, and you pay $50 less. For that difference in features, I'd say the Dell wins.

I'll compare to Ex's 'counting' computer - again, a six-cell battery, so it won't last as long. It's larger and weighs more, so significantly less mobile. Processor is barely faster. It's DDR 667, but it does have the 4GB. It also doesn't include lojack or a camera. If given a choice between this or the Dell, I'd go for the dell, though they're both pretty bad. The only upside here is a good graphics, but in a laptop I'd say battery and mobility is more important.

You linked to an Acer and a laptop with an AMD Turion processor. That's not much better; in fact it could be worse.

I don't care what you think about Dell or whatever. I'm simply asking what you think of the laptop I purchased. I know that laptops come with stupid programs that you don't need. I don't care. I'll just uninstall them and/or not sign up for their shit.
