Interesting things I've noticed

Lately, I've started to realize some stuff. Not sure if anyone else has but I've noticed that a long time ago whenever you would sneeze people would say bless you. Well I don't know if its how old I am or what but I've sneezed a bunch of times and haven't heard 1 bless you. It's not a big deal but when I was little it was always something that someone would do but now it has stopped.

Another thing interesting is that I've noticed that more Atheists are coming around just to be called Atheist and then they attack people who believe in other things. Personally, whenever I'm at school, I keep my mouth shut about my beliefs. However there are some kids that tend to just go off at someone that believe there is a higher being. I usually think, "Well they believe the same thing as I do but do they have to be so harsh?" I guess its just a cry for attention but I really feel bad for the people that do believe in a higher being for being harassed.

Anyone else notice those things (I'm sure a lot of you have noticed the second)?

Everyone still says 'Bless you' when I sneeze. I find it somewhat awkward, especially when I sneeze 3-4 times and people say it after each time.

Are you sure about that?

Sometimes I can sneeze 20+ times in a row. Now imagine what THAT is like :P

I just say it once no matter how many times they sneeze.

The rules are:
1 "bless you" per sneeze period
Periods are separated by 1 minute

What's the proper response to bless you? Thank you? I usually say nothing back when I sneeze, but I feel like a jerk.

I go to a Catholic school, so the atheists there aren't as aggressive or common, but it's still a high school, so they are there. However, on the internet, atheists are generally assholes to Christians. Muslims are never the target of atheist rage, for some reason.

Just Here For The Pie

I used to say, "gesundheit" which means, "good health" whenever somebody would sneeze. A lot people think it means "bless you".

Now I just say, "excuse you". However, when I say that, it generally upsets people.

Sneezer: "That wasn't a cough!"
Me: "Oh, I don't give a damn. EXCUSE YOU FOR SPEWING YOUR GERMS!" :bleh:

That's because we think that muslims are hopeless cases, and also making fun of them might be dangerous... :ermm:

Here (Spain) we either say "Salud" (good health) or "jesus" (self-explainatory).

I still hear "Bless you" occasionally. I also say it from time to time out of habit.

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

People always say "bless you" to me. I always say "bless you" to people, even if I don't know them.

People haven't stopped saying "Bless you" around here.

As for your second point, you seem to be in the opposite situation I am. At my school, the religious kids are the vocal ones about their beliefs, and an atheist can't say anything to their omgatheistsgotohelling without risking social damnation (rimshot). It's weird, because I don't even go to a private school.

You mean it's different in real life? I thought I just lived in a particularly religious area (being in the Bible Belt and all). Where do all the atheist assholes go in real life? Do the asshole ones have no real life? Do they feel that it's ok to be an asshole on the internet but not in real life? I don't get it =/.

I beg to differ.

In particular, take a look at DarkMaster24's posts. Some of the others were bad, but he was the worst (in fact, I'm betting this is the thread that got him banned XD).

Yikes. Is this common across America? I've only seen atheists like that online, although that might be simply because I live in the Bible Belt.

Dang, that's bad. Even at the Bible Belt, that was unheard of (at least as far as I ever saw). At my old highschool, there were a few atheists (and probably more that I didn't know about), a few Chritians, and most of the people didn't care about religion. They were too busy being... er, highschoolers. My school suppressed most talk of religion in public (particularly on part of the teachers), which is effectively the same as promoting secularism (which goes hand in hand with atheism).

I consider myself a secular Christian.

It's pretty much the same at my school. We're highschoolers; we don't care.

What I was saying is that I don't notice it in real life, but this is likely because I go to a catholic school.

Although going to a Catholic school doesn't mean a whole lot nowadays.

Well you aren't truly being informed properly. The kind of people that claim to be Atheists here are the punk (not like goth, emo, or anything like that but just annoying kids) kids that smoke, skateboard, get in fights, go to intervention, ISS, or whatever that like to be the attention whores they truly are. THOSE are the ones I'm talking about.

Other than that, I don't really know any quiet non-believers other than myself.. but then they wouldn't be quiet would they? x)

I really doubt atheism goes hand in hand with secularism, you can still be religious and support secularism, this is just an ignorant statement.

@point 1: I still say bless you.
@point 2: um, not really? Everyone is trying to do good in school to care about religious and non religious crap.

Nowadays, Atheism is a religion in itself. The way people treat it like one, it totally defeats the point.
