OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Quote from Chubacca
there are also those cards where u put money in the center, no?
Nope, also a house rule. I think a lot of people just wanted to get their money back, so all the "taxes" and whatnot would be put back into circulation via landing on Free Parking and collecting all the money in the center.

I was just in a game where I was in jail with a get out of jail free card. I chose not to use it and instead stayed in jail for three turns. However, when it forced me to leave jail it used my card as well even though I stayed the max 3 turns. I should have been able to keep the card.

Looks like this topic is getting attention again..
Anyways, devilesk, the official rule is that all trades since the beginning of bankruptcy are reverted upon declaring. The idea of coding that is just painful, which is why it's on an honor-system type deal right now for not screwing over the person you're bankrupt to. Perhaps adding the banner will help this, too, since if the player is banned before he trades it all away, the proper owner gets everything.
Concerning your get out of jail free card, what happened is what the rules say is supposed to happen.
And as I have said many times, I am not going to add in those house rules; the game is already long enough compared to other starcraft games.

Finally, the list of things I have to add is growing.. most of them are quick fixes, and the ones that aren't won't take too long. Hopefully I can get around to it within the next couple weeks.

Quick fixes:
-Remove all money traders when 1 is in box: this prevents people from giving and borrowing money. Also, remove money trader if brings 2 men to area, to help those accidents be more smooth.
-A quick fix to the really complicated quitting situation that no one will probably ever see but I have described.. elsewhere.
-A new banner voting system to allow banning after the initial 5 minutes.
-Add list price of properties and another tutorial explaining the interest on trading issue.
-Scout attacking crystals when paying interest, even if it is amusing.
-A message to kick out the normal auction message when someone quits and everything goes to auction.
Small Additions:
-Comprehensive income tax system
-Raise maximum bid from 990 to 1500 (Last on the to-do list, but we'll see).

Also, if anyone sees the chance/cc cards not work, make sure to notice if they ever worked at all, if one was landed on in the first roll, and maybe, what the last card drawn was before it stopped working. Thanks a bunch.

Also, it would be nice if you could ping the space where a token ends up after it moves the number of spaces that is rolled. That way it's easier to locate the tokens.

Also, I can't find a rule that says I lose my get out of jail free card if I fail to roll a doubles on my third turn in jail. All I see is that I must pay a 50 dollar fine and I move the number of spaces I rolled.

I don't think that's a valid excuse for not adding the option to play with certain house rules, especially when those rules are things some people like to play with. You should give people what they want. People will play long games if they want to. A full game of test of survival can easily take four to six hours.

Oh wow, you're right. Looks like I'm adding "rework last jail roll" to my list of things to do.. it seems as though sources say slightly different things sometimes, but what I'll end up with will be different than what I have now.

As far as house rules.. those rules make the game worse in every way. I am doing people a favor by not adding them, since most people don't realize this fact. That and if you look at the link DevliN posted, there are hundreds of house rules, and I'm not interested in spending my time in order to make it so my map can be played in an inferior way just because that's how they grew up playing because they never felt like reading the rulebook.

Fully support your position fritfrat!
But there are some smart tweaks to the gameplay which are not house rules. You might want to add them once.
Also, sorry, haven't done anything to the map. :sorry:

Hear me Raor!!

I don't think we want all the house rules, just the one everyone plays by. Like the free parking, if you land on Go you get "400" dollars :). The main ones like that!

:) If its a long game you have to make it fun for everyone, so they play it.

Aug 3 2009, 6:08 pm killer_sss Post #29

the problem is people leave when games are too long and not everyone plays by the same rules. Hell i've played with about 10 different free parking rules when i use to play with house rules.

I wish my last post wouldn't have been deleted because it was more directed at everyone than pariah. If you want house rules feel free to edit the map. Frit has spent 2 years on this map and if he doesn't want to put in house rules he has that right. House rules make the game longer and more unbalanced. While they may be somewhat fun they really drag out the game. I played a game with my cousin where we battled a week striaght. we had free parking money and double money for landing on go vs merely passing. we hit $10000 each before we agreed to a trade that finially shifted momentum.

Actually, I never play with either of those rules. When we play (my friends and I), we only play by the official rules. If the games get too long, we'll occasionally set a time limit and compare all assets at that time, but other than that we're house rule-free.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Frit, I dunno if you plan on updating this at all, but I just played with some random guys and they loved it. They had 2 minor complaints, though: player 4's color and the lack of displayed cost on the unit itself. The first is purely aesthetic, but a few complained that they couldn't see Purple on the minimap (and at times the houses clashed with the terrain color). The second only came up when people were trading properties for money and couldn't remember the initial cost of the properties.

No, I am probably not going to update it anymore. No motivation, and I'm back in school; if anyone wants to spend the hours on it, they're more than welcome to have the source file :). As far as your concerns go, I've never heard any problem with p4, and I wouldn't know what color to replace it to.. I think it helps make turn order more intuitive the way it is. And your other concern is in my to do list above.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

More fun stuff:
Chance was the first thing I landed on and it didn't work. Didn't work for anyone else, either, for the duration of the game.
One player bid on a property he couldn't afford. He managed to win it without mortgaging anything prior to bidding.
One player went AFK for a few mins while in control of Mr. Monopoly. We couldn't ban, and there's no timer to force a player to react.

I rarely have motivation for anything SC related (as you know), but I could get around to looking at this if you really don't care to update anymore at all.

Couple of things (great map btw):
Player colors and token sizes are small and hard to see. Minimap ping would be useful for sure (or change them to ultras or something larger, and trap them).
Prices listed on the lands. And rent fees listed on the floor of each place as well. (could use lings or something to write out the numbers to be seen from screen view [not the minimap])
Sound Effects: There are a bunch of cheap sound effects either from SNES/NES/SEGA emulators that you could use. Imo the most important ones are dice rolling, turn signaling (start/end), 'SOLD', and as a bonus the jail enter/leave sound effects are hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enJi3J3xrQs

Also, a player gave away all his shit to another player and left the game. This is an illegal move. (but I may be mistaken, he might have just been a retard and left to a debt when he could have auctioned).

PS- Might be too much work, but I always preferred the SHORT GAME:

RULES for a SHORT GAME (60 to 90 minutes)
Top of Page

There are three changed rules for this Short Game.
1. During PREPARATION for play, the Banker shuffles the pack of Title Deed cards, then the player to the left cuts them, then the Banker deals out two, one at a time, to each player. The players must immediately pay the Bank the printed price of each. Play then begins as in the regular game.
2. In this short game, it is necessary to have only three houses (instead of four) on each lot of a complete colour-group before the player may buy a hotel.
Rent for a hotel remains the same as in the regular game.
The turn-in value of a hotel is still one-half the purchase price, which in this game is one house fewer than in the regular game.
3. END OF GAME. The first player to go bankrupt retires from play, as in the regular game. However, when the second bankruptcy occurs, the game ends. Play immediately ceases, with the bankrupt player's turning over to there creditor all that they have of value, including buildings and any other properties.
This happens whether the creditor is a rival player or the Bank.
Each remaining player then values his/her property.
(1) Cash on hand
(2) Lots, Utilities and Railroads owned, at the price printed on the board.
(3) Any mortgaged property owned, at one-half the price printed on the board.
(4) Houses, valued at purchase price.
(5) Hotels, valued at purchase price including the value of the
three houses turned in.
THE RICHEST PLAYER WINS!

Hi Fritfrat,

I got to your contact by the credits in the classic Starcraft 1: Monopoly Map. The map was still in play 10 years after you created probably in 2008. And it's one of the map that i like and popular among some players.

However, there was an issue with the map that spoilt the fun in the map. That is, some players out of rage in losing or failed trade negotiation, refuse to roll their dice when it their turn (this is termed by me as Rage AFK). The purpose is to prevent the winner from winning, a poor act of sportmanship.

Based on feedback from some players, I was hoping you will release a simple update that set a timer for each player turn. This should prevent losers from exploiting the map. I can help to promote and distribute your new version to the players of SC 1 in Bnet (US server).

Hope to hear from you. Thanks!

Hopefully you see my post here, but I have updated the map and uploaded it to the database! Monopoly 1.04 now has the force-to-move feature added. I edited the main post to include the download link, which I can also paste here:
