Korean Mapping Programs Don't Run

I've been having some issues trying to use the most recent korean map protector, as it cannot be unprotected at the moment, so I would be happy if I could. But whenever I try to run it, it just makes a "crash" / "error" sound and it doesn't work. I tried using Dependency Walker, and I got all the DLLs it wanted and it still doesn't work, it does the same thing. What can be the issue?

I think I've had a thread about this a long time ago, but there's no search function on this forum. Haha.

First of all, ask yourself this question: Is it truly necessary to protect my map?

because protecting your map will stop people from editing and spreading your maps. Although that's what you seemingly want to avoid, allowing people to edit your map will make your map popular, as when they make the changes, they'll try to spread it too. If you're lucky, the editor will give you credit. If not... it's a risk you have to take...
Another thing is that if your map is super complicated (which I assume would be because.. well.. you're a korean-fanatic...), then normal b.netters won't be able to figure out ur triggers and edit it...
Finally, the one thing that makes people protect maps are people that take it and replaces your name with his... Now this is a sensitive area, as people would be very upset if the stolen version got spread, and no one 'acknowledges' your work... But you must first realize that if your map is very popular, then the original version shall prevail. If your map is unpopular, then no one's gonna steal it. It is the mediocre maps that are in danger... Now should u settle for mediocrity? :P...
Good example would be you thinking "Hero Siege" was made by "Life2Death", an infamous map stealer amongst this forum... Oh btw, he's a smart guy.. He deleted the Warrior, hoping that some idiots will think that the map originally had only 11 heroes, and warrior was added by me and thereby stealing credit. (dude who makes a funky number of "11" heroes.. plus there's a fucking SPACE at the hero selection.. indicating it has ALWAYS been set up for 12 heroes) He also tried to steal my "Snowcraft".. which was kinda a joke as he was trying to frame people on this forum... fortunately I didn't care... as the map was unpopular.. so meh~...

...Also.. if people edit your map, that's probably the most sincere form of flattery, and you should compliment yourself if they do. ( <3 Moose)

Now if you still want to protect your map, do you reallly need a crazy map protector? For me, whenever the map's protected, whether if it's just Starforge protection, or a crazy hex protection, I wouldn't touch it, as 1. it'd be too much of a hassle to unprotect it .. 2. I respect the author's decision.
Usually if u just use a wimpy protector, most ppl'd just ignore it.. unless someone's really out there to get you.. o.O .. or if your map's REALLY good (but again, if it's REALLY good.. then the original ver will prevail)

why I typed all this? cause... i doubt anyone here know anything about korean map protectors....
Uberation's good enough for me :D

Have you tried StarCraft Map Cracker? From what I hear it can unprotect almost every protection out there now, but it can also protect, and it can't even open its own protection without a password. Maybe I'm behind on Korean protection programs though.

Honestly, I agree with the above post, and would recommend you just use TinyMap, as it will give you the best compression, and at the same time put on a light protection that should keep most random B.netters out of it.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

Compression > Protection in all things. Nobody can make a map good enough to deserve protection.

Not to mention, anything readable by Starcraft can be read by a hex editor, and the map can always be pieced together.

Is that a joke? Any map can be accessed and "unprotected" as easily as putting on socks.

Change your goal from protection to compression. It will benefit you more.

well, i can make maps that are good enough to deserve protection, but i donīt protect them, so shouldnīt you.
ask yourself the question, how many times you tried to open a map and couldnīt cause it was protected.
not, that you donīt know how to unprotect it, but its just annoying, to use 2 programs if you want to
take a short peek on a map. Unprotected Maps for the world.

:payne:

I love how this topic turned into a spread of the OS cause (Open Source).
By the way, I'm a big fan of OS projects and all and you won't ever see any of my maps protected.
So far, I must admit the only map I've finished and that people loved was "Town Ars [v4.00]", but it never got spread (just as v1 isn't really played much nowadays).
My current project (Yggdrasill: Tree of Genesis, a RPG) will not get protected either, but I could always ensure the credits are hard to steal. There's many way of doing so:
- Hide your name written wide terrain by FoG so if ever the guy gets to only change the credits rapidly, he won't even check on the mini-map and you could ask people to go see in the map.
- Do like Crescent Dyne RPG's display system and virtually write your credits
- Put your name at many places (Forces, a bulding somewhere, in mission objectives, at the start, display text, etc...)
- Many others, have fun figuring them out! ;P

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

I've used it on several maps and it works fine, not sure if there's still some bugs, it's on my website.

Actually, there's a cool program Farty wrote, here, that changes letters into characters of letters that only the actual SC font has, so editors like SCM Draft look all buggy if you try to read it, but it looks fine in StarCraft.
