See, the thing is, you prove your ignorance by assuming that all metal is 'screaming'. Another thing, when you say "I agree some albums do not expose their true potential till after a few listens, but I again, have yet to find a metal album that does anything remotely like that.", didn't you also say that you never tried to get into metal? In other words, how could this statement be true if you've already said something denying it...? Also, rythm and beat is so very simple to find, I can't believe you actually can't do that. Just because the tempo is faster doesn't mean that there's no rythm/beat. I mean, jesus, a lot of metal is played in 4/4, if you have trouble noticing that, then I honestly question your musical competence.

So, before you go dissing metal as a whole, and showing your vast ignorance towards it as a genre of music, you might want to look into what all it covers, because it goes from everything from Operah Metal, to Death Metal, to Avant-Garde, and not all of those genres have screaming as a small part, or even a part at all.

What you're getting is that I have seen nothing to warrant an expenditure of time trying to get into a musical genre that I have reason to believe I will not enjoy. The same reason I don't eat salad: I have never eaten a salad but I have tried its individual ingredients at various times, and disliked them. I have listened to isolated parts of metal songs at times and found them to be terrible, hence the above statement.

Excalibur, no offense buddy, but if you can't find time signatures or recognize rhythms in music, then you are not very musically educated. It's obvious that you have a close mind towards Metal, and refuse to expand your musical horizons. It's offensive that you describe it as 'screaming' when very few types of Metal even use Screams as a part of their vocals. I don't know what would possess you to write off an entire genre - with very many unique and different sub-genres without even trying it.

You say that you don't like Slayer, but I am willing to bet that you've never even gave an album of theirs a fair listen. You say that you don't like 'screaming' or whatever - I bet you listened to some garbage screamo song (which is not even Metal) and said - I'm never going to give music that uses something different than normal vocals a chance.

anyway, it's a shame that they put off a variety of other vocal techniques, just because they are not use to it because they listen to pop shit on the radio everyday since the day they are born. Tell you what- Death Metal and Black Metal vocals are harsh normally, yes, but are not screaming. People aren't even educated about this. Guess what- there is metal that has clean vocals too. Heavy metal for example is sometimes perfectly understandable even to an untrained ear.

Oh, and just so you know- you don't need a lyric sheet to listen to harsh vocals. When you listen to metal enough, you can normally understand the harsh vocals after you get the hang of things. I know that I - for one attempt to sing along to a lot of harsh vocal passages, they can be kinda catchy.

Anyway, You're all such close minded people and don't deserve to call yourselves musically educated or tasteful in music if you're going to act so ignorant to a great genre (Metal). \m/ Metal 4 Life.

I'm not close minded. There's a reason I don't like Slayer. It's because I'VE LISTENED TO THEM. I've heard Reign in Blood from start to back. It's shitty. I don't call metal music noise. I enjoy a lot of metal, it's not my favourite genre, but I sit there and listen to it from time to time. I call fucking Slayer noise. Don't put words in my mouth, either of you, and Norm, you aren't the be all and end all to what constitutes good music. For starters, I do love Children of Bodom.

Didn't like it JaFF, but I do like epic/dramatic/over the top stuff like this seemed to be pushing for. The vocals are what really killed it for me. Not my style. Feel free to keep trying though.
