Nissan Skyline R-34 :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

Quote
After a successful run at hijacking fuel tanks on the highways of the Dominican Republic, Dominic Toretto (Diesel) leaves his girlfriend Letty (Rodriguez) and his gang, as he is now an international criminal. One day, in Panama, Dominic receives a phone call from his sister Mia (Brewster), who tells him that Letty was just murdered.

Dominic returns to Los Angeles, California, to find out who murdered Letty. Meanwhile, Brian O'Connor (Walker) - now an FBI agent, is assigned to track down a notorious drug lord named Antonio Braga. Dominic and Brian once again cross paths when an illegal street racer's name is linked between Braga's operation and Letty's murder.

I plan on seeing it tonight.

It's "Quicker Than Time", not "Quicker Then Time". :P

And no, I am not looking forward to this movie at all.

Why not? It's such a great series. I look froward to seeing the R-34 GTR ripping it up.

I just noticed this in the film trailer located on the website. It shows Bryan (Walker) and Dom (Diesel) about to race and Bryan states "A lot of things have changed" or something like that and then they both stomp on the gas and the break to preform a burn out and I noticed that the Skyline only has its rear wheels spinning, when the car is All Wheel Drive (AWD).

Front brakes are stronger than rear brakes.

Yes, I know that, but the car is still AWD no matter what. If anything the front tires would spin a little bit, but I'm pretty sure I saw nothing.

So then obviously this nissan wasn't an AWD or you didn't see it.

I know IVE heard of a Skyline with a FR drivetrain

I'm going to look into it but I think that it could be a feature on some of them or something like that. I don't know it that specific one was AWD or not, I was just inferring using my past knowledge of the GTR.

@DM it wouldn't be FRD because the back wheels were spinning. :O

It got TERRIBLE reviews, apparently. 2 star, or something.

I was disappointed, i hope this doesn't reflect on "Does It Offend You, Yeah?" (The song you heard in the trailer? That was them)

*sigh* It seems you need more detailed explanations, here you go...

To make a wheel turn you have to overcome the force of the brake (if any) and the friction between the road and the tire (for simplicity I'll assume the car stands still the whole time). For dividing the braking force we assume 60% of the force goes to the front wheels, 40% to the back wheels. For the awd we assume all wheels get the same power. These are also simplifications, but they make understanding the process really easy.

So now you increase engine power to the point where the 40% braking + friction force at the rear wheels is just not enough to stop the rear wheels from turning. The front wheels still stand still. Due to the movement of the tires the friction force is reduced significantly so they start to turn faster and faster. This is the point where you release the brake a litte so they go even faster, but since the front wheels receive more braking power and still have the stronger friction of standing still tires the wheels won't move.

Let me show it with a few numbers: (Again they are just rough estimations)
Total Braking Force: 100
Friction Force of still tires: 20
Friction Force of moving tires: 10
=> Front wheels need 60+20 power to move
=> Back wheels need 40+20 power to move
=> You turn up your engine power to say 65 (for both front and back wheels)
=> Back wheels start moving, receive only 40+10 braking force due to moving tires
=> You reduce braking a little to total 80 (48 front, 32 back)
=> Front tires force 48 + 20 = 68 (> 65 engine power)
=> Back wheels turn fast because engine power 65 >> 32 + 10

Some other cool shit:

Just how hard it is to burn out:

NOTE: Somewhat helps my case, I'm pretty sure that the Skyline in "Fast & Furious" as a posi rear. Either that or a really heavy clutch for the rear differential.

The front wheels still turn... This is somewhat of a poor example though. The supercharger most likely provides enough torque to turn the tire regardless of the breaking power, unless they're brembo's

Plus, if any of you have ever driven a standard/manual transmission car you'd know that you would have to rev the engine up, I'd say safely, about twice the amount of a normal idle to be able to "drop-the-clutch" (release it really-really fast) to do a burn out without staling the car. You'd also need a lot of torque. You don't need a supercharger

I don't feel like making the page load time any longer so here is another video of what I think is an AWD Skyline R-34 doing a burn out.

Notice how the car still stays on the road even though the guy is "hammering"

I actually really love that song ("We Are Rockstars") and was surprised it wasn't actually in the movie. At all.

I thought it was waaaaaaaay too melodramatic. I went to a midnight showing with friends for shits and giggles, and it was definitely a "wait for it on TV" sorta deal.

Lol wow, I'm really suprised you noticed the 2 wheel drive on the skyline. They actually dissabled the skylines 4 wheel drive because the car performed too well. In order to get the burnouts and dramatic drifts they wanted they had to loosen it up by making it 2 wheel drive. I forget where I've read this but If I can find it I'll post the link.

I can't wait to go see this movie, thoguht I'm not sure when I'll get around to it lol. I'm currently saving up for a Mitsubishi 3000gt as a project car to mod and what not. It's definitely no skyline but we can't all be loaded lol.

2 things:
If you push up the engine power high enough then of course you can do the 4 wheel burnout. That's actually much easier as it doesn't require perfectly dosed brake and gas presses. I was explaining how it's possible to have only 2 wheels spinning with awd.

Brakes are always WAY stronger than your engine power. brembo or not The weak spot in the drivetrain is the clutch. It'll never manage to overcome fully pressed brakes, even if the engine would generate enough power. Even when reving up to the max and then let the clutch kick in the inertia of the car will eat up most of the rotational energy and the engine stalls immediately.

Lots of movies are doing that now.
Iron Man didn't have "iron Man" in the actual movie.
Death Race didn't have "Welcome To The Jungle" in the actual movie.

Disappointment.

In Iron Man's defense, they saved it for the end credit sequence. I was sorta expecting that, building up to the epicness of that song.

Death Race has no excuse! :D

The Fast and the Furious franchise has always over done the use of Skylines. They could've at least changed the main car to something new. Even the R-35 would've been a nice change. But its always been a Blue/Silver Skyline.

I've noticed that most of the cars in the franchise have been reused. For instance, the Skyline has been used in all 4 films, and some have been used in the films here and there, such as the Honda S2000, and the Mazada RX-7.

The new R-35 Skyline is nice but it just has a twin-turbo'd V6 engine, while the older skyline(s) R-33/R-34 have the twin-turbo'd inline 6 engine.
