THE OLD TOPIC REDUG FROM ITS GRAVE. http://doodle77.dyndns.org/staticsen.php?st=25695&p=0 Stare at my blind innocence and think (What the fuck, where did the marine go thats in THESE posts (I ate him ;o))

As some who read the shoutbox have seen, I am remaking my true first map, thanks to horde (<3 and what not). So with that being said I need assistance for ideas to make my map MUCH BETTER AND SEXIER than my first attempt (Link: http://www.staredit.net/files/53/ ). So far we have

Concepts
- VHP System - Using 1x1 locations on all current enemies (Allows for custom shooting speeds with a minimum of current allowed starcraft speed without mods, and shotguns to actually hit more than one enemy at a time)
- Ammo system - Expel bullets based of damage.
- Threat system - The more 'noise' you make, the more zombies will be attracted to your position rather than free roaming. Safety will be an option which you can turn on
Safehouse builder - (May or may not appear in this map) - Build baracades to seal the front door from all but ranged enemies, windows and gaps in the wall included. After that, you can place the MAGICAL safe, which links to all other safes in the city (Yes the one from RE1). Using death counter menu and such to find items rather then tons of units on the map. The Merchant, will aid you in your struggles by selling you items, however you must wait for him to restock his supply. Mercenary recruitment also will be a safehouse option, fill your house with some of the finest civilians around and defend your house
- RPG Character building - Based off repetive actions, your natural abilities will increase, almost dramticly. Constantly reloading, firing, picking up and moving items, and other tasks in the map.
- Random Loot - Enemies randomly drop money, healing items, optional Key Items, ammo, and more!
- Inspection System - Talk to people, inspect furnature for items and such, find out what that item right next to you really does.
- Ambiance - Random people, objects, and even doors will respond at random with a message. Some may be the people inside telling you to leave and that they want no troble, others may be rescued survivors giving you thanks and giving you a random reward. EVEN random armed NPCs giving you a spare clip when you've run out.

Missions
--- Area 1, start ---
Mission set 1:
- Unbarracade the Gunstore owners house due to his Silly wife baracading the WRONG door
- Have a drink with the bartender, and listen to his story
- Find out about recent power surges at the Power Relay Station
- Locate the key to a resident's back door, to gain access to the Power relay station
- Infultrate the complex, and restore power

Mission set 2:
- Trade weapons at the hotel down the street for nonperishable foods.
- Assist local survivors by suppling them with food, guns, and baracading supplies.

Mission set 3:
- Slay 25 zombies outside the gunstore, their kind has already overstayed its visit.

As you can see here Ive assembled a rather short list of things, but I need more help in the enemies/missions/weapons/locations department. Once I have enough of this complete and the map itself complete along with some screenshots, I intend to make a UMS Production post.

Also, a cool zombie map feature would be to like be able to find survivors around the map, and you can recruit them into your party if you feed and protect them, but you also gain their skills, i.e Carpenter/Welder for barricades, doctor for wounds, Military guy for extra protection, cook, someone who knows the area, ect. But ALSO the survivors can be infected and they dont tell you, or maybe they go insane and start killing people and blowing barricades up. You also get any supplies the person has with them, but if your party is mistreated or often dies, others wont want to join you, and may even kill you if you mess with them.
I think food factor should be a cool thing, so you cant just sit inside and defend, you have to go search for food and supplies, instead of just a, "Do this that and kill this boss" zombie map, one where you actually have to survive and more of a RPG feel.

I intend to make an Open RPG RE map after I finish this, keep those ideas aside :P

The link you provided gives an error.

I think I've played the map you speak of... it's the one where you have a low HP marine that gets killed with one attack from any zombie and immediately gets replaced by your full health marine to detect when you get infected through a bite, right?

I must say that I didn't like that at all - it was quite annoying for controls and the idea of infection (and vaccine for it) didn't contribute anything to the gameplay.

As for these ideas, I think you should keep them as simple as possible - get rid of VHP for all zombies which in turn will remove the possibility of having a fully realistic ammo system. Though having an awesome ammo system is cool, using VHP to achieve it is totally uncool and quite complicated to implement.

I like the noise idea, I think it would benefit much more if you could use surpressed weapons, but that again leads to VHP. You could, of course, use the sprite battle system, but I doubt it would be very practical. If manage to pull off this noise system, it can be a huge contribution to the gameplay. I'm tempted to steal this idea for the CotD zombie project. ;)

Character building: yeah, sounds good. This makes it slightly unrealistic if you want to boost HP somehow, though. If anything, your max HP will go down if you take a serious beating. :P But overall, it is a good idea that, as everything else, needs the right execution.

Zombies dropping items: yeah, seems quite logical and useful. An extension of this comes from my CotD ideas and concepts list: zombies that spawn other zombies upon death. For example, you have a 'queen' (kerrigan) zombie type that spawns N zerglings upon death. I am planning to achieve this with the DPD system (Death Position Detection).

Nice to know, still someone cares abour RE/Zombie mapping, gl on that DM. I like the threat system, something totaly new.
I even remember the days when our topics, yours apocalypse and my tfs rpg were compeating xD.
Ideas: Dont make bosses just one units that u need to micro, make them innovative... like 2 units that u need to micro x_x. no rly cool boss fights would be cool (wt..o_O)
Make a character class (or skill if u wont have classes) that can fix stuffs and combine junk to make weapons, ammo and other stuff.
Make skills like: Create barricade, fast reload, running(ur hero unit changes to heroling for few secs), Precise shooting (air unit apreas above hero unit) hmm and thats about it, use anything of this if you wish, thats all whats left from me as a mapper for an RE RPG ideas, gl. v _ v

Locations: RC Hospital, RC Fire Depratment, RC Universiry, JS bar, Train station, park, secret umbrella lab(maybe a bonus loc), umbrella building(last loccation? o_O)
Weapons: Magnum, M4A1,Handgun,SMG,Shotgun,Greneda Launcher,Rocket launcherEnemys: Take an animal, mutate it and u got urself an RE boss fight, exept that maybe Birkin (Gvirus mutant), nemesis ofc, Tyrants (the tall white boys [exept thanatos]), mutated... RC lawyer? o_v, gl

Of course I still care, I intend to bring zombie mapping to SC2 where we shall dominate all.

I remember those days too, :P

Now for these RPG things you bring up. Classes I may consider for the RPG I plan to make after this, but mostly skills will be avaliable to all players.

Yea, about SC2... i just hope it delivers, if so il probably be there too, if we meet, il be sure to verbe you to USS, hehehe.
Some more Skills: Guard/Block - invinicibilty on 5 secs, stun (make zombies immobile for some secs), hmm armaggedon (314314 fire balls pop out of the sky and anihilate zombis (butcher ocupation only) V_V

edit:
btw the map seems very small, if u intend to make any map and ESPECIALY RPGs, i suggest 256x256 becouse u can always have some space left when u finished that wont hurt u, but if its to small and u want to add something ur screwed, u can always resize but it may screw u up too.

This can be SOOOO Easily fixed with the use of just a few eud's, It wouldnt even be hard to update in the unlikely event the exact eud's you are using are patched, I could even make the trigger for you, If ammo/wav is holding you back, PLEASE just use a friggin eud.

Also, the threat system isn't totally new I think.. Bioject is using that i beleive.

Im interested, would it be possible to center a location on a unit that just died though? Otherwise the shotgun will look retarded shooting one enemy at godly range.

Well there is this http://www.staredit.net/topic/6619/ however it's not totally reliable, systems like this are much prone to failing if there are mass units, If there isn't mass units you might be able to do something by detecting unit hp, detecting where that unit is located is the only problem.

EDIT: What about making shotgun a defiler or other spellcasting unit? Then you can control the exact blast radius! :O

Pigy_G kinda suggested what I was gonna suggest.

Have the players as Defilers, and use Swarm as the shooting mechanism. Course, you could use HTs Hallucinations and Corsairs for this too, depending on what you feel like.

This NEEDS to have Nemesis in it >_>

EDIT: I just realised the massive flaw in the defiler idea. Disregard it >_>

Just because you don't know how use them or what they are capable of doesn't mean they are cheating or anything. EUDs are a legitiment map feature, If you think about it all it really is is just a death detection ;).

You could make shotgun a firebat!

EW, FIREBAT. NONONONONO. It was bad enough it being a battle-axe in Tenebrous and dual SMGs in some Halo map I played. Dun use a firebat -_-;

Wild assumptions, Pigy. I'm sure he's referring to the fact that Mac users can't play the map and that your map (probably) becomes invalid once a new patch comes out.
When that happens you can spread an updated version, but still it won't be available to most of the people until after quite some time has passed. How fast you can spread the update of course depends on popularity.

As a sidenote, using EUDs is not death detection (featured by Blizzard), it is using overflows (exploiting programming gaps).

See even if I could use EUD's, the fact is the shotgun (Which is a ghost ;O) shoots an enemy, using death detection the zombie which is no longer in his location, places a burrowed unit, Centers a 4x4, and kills at random 1~3 more enemies (Or hurts them)

Beat that pigy ;o
